This journal is friends only.

In case you're thinking of adding me I have unlocked three boringly representative recent posts, chosen for the accidental theme of "three things on a Thursday", to give you some idea of the level of mindless wittering you can expect from this journal.  I am going to friendslock (nearly) all previous public entries just as soon as I've posted this.

If you want to be added please leave a comment!

Thank you for adding me! I'm really glad that [livejournal.com profile] mockduck came up with this idea, it's almost as exciting as Christmas!

No problem! I was going to add you back when [livejournal.com profile] mockduck first posted her poll, but thought I'd make sure I was included on the filter before taking advantage. I think it's a fantastic idea and I'm looking forward to getting to know new people!

For somebody who didn't know she needed more friends, I am really chuffed!

Reading back a little in your journal (which is fascinating, btw) I realize that we have more in common than you might think in the people that we care for (albeit in my case it is very part time) so I am going to take a chance and put you on those filters ... I was initially cautious because I have a sister in Brighton and an uncle in Lewes, and I am honour bound to keep family stuff very private, but the nice thing is that we have been properly introduced, so I feel that I can do that ...

Sorry, I'm rambling!

Thank you for adding me to your filters! It's lucky really - I tend to get VERY offended if I feel I've been left out of stuff, and I'm very trustworthy and ungossipy really:-D

In all seriousness I do completely understand the need to keep things private. I remember [livejournal.com profile] mockduck was very wary about adding me when I first came across her her journal a year and a half ago as we've both lived in Brighton for years and had never met. We've discovered (I think) three people in common since, but nobody close and it's never been an issue. If I do (by some miracle, as my brain hasn't worked properly for years) realise that I know your sister or uncle I will be the very soul of discretion!

There, I knew that my hunch was right! I guess this whole thing is about mutual trust, isn't it? Although it is a long time since I friended anybody that I didn't know, so I'm nervous and excited all over again :-)

I've added your sister to the same filters too, on the basis that if my sisters knew something that I didn't, I'd be miffed ...

I think 'mindless wittering' does you a disservice. I remember [livejournal.com profile] sahara_harp* posting once about how she enjoyed finding old diaries and journals at garage sales and how the journals she liked the best were the ones that went into a great deal of detail about daily life. I tend to look at my journal this way: for people who live in a different country, culture, or even have different views/politics/sexuality, it's far more interesting than it is for my close friends. Well, that's how it works the other way round for me, anyway. I love seeing what's the same/different about other people's mundane lives.

* Who actually didn't want to be recommended to all and sundry but hard cheese, I'm personally recommending her to you because I bet you'd really enjoy each other's journals.

Yes, I do know exactly what you mean about enjoying journals that go into detail about daily life. I love that about yours, and I think (hope!) that people enjoy that about mine. I suppose the problem is that my life is the very opposite of exotic to me, so it's hard to judge if it's mindless wittering or an insightful glimpse into a private life that I'm offering.

I remember [livejournal.com profile] sahara_harp's comment on your original post, something about not wanting to be recommended to people who write mindless twaddle. It made me laugh, anyway. Given that comment I'm touched that you'd recommend I read her and I shall go and introduce myself!

(Thank you!)

Hah, now I'm feeling a little sharp about that comment, though by mindless twaddle I really meant largely memes. Life stories are rarely twaddle!

Thanks for the add, I am pleased to meet you!

I'm glad that your definition of mindless twaddle agrees with mine, although I'm quite sure [livejournal.com profile] mockduck wouldn't have recommended I add you if she thought otherwise!

Glad to meet you too!

I'm delighted to meet you! I think I checked out your profile a while ago but was too shy to add you, so I'm very happy to add you back!

Hello!

I found you through my friend land_girl, and would like to add you if I could. I am mom to a seven year old son with Downs' Syndrome, so I understand about having a child with more needs. I am sure your son is just like Sammy, in that he's 10,000% sweetheart.

Oh, and feel free to add me back, of course.

Anne

I've added you back!

My boy is Sam in my LJ but he's usually Sammy to us, so I think I'll like you - you clearly have taste! You're right, too - he's 10,000% sweetheart and more.

You're very welcome! I've just checked out your profile and would like to opt in on your child filter - actually, any filters! I hate being left out.:) I have two - one potty training one that is currently defunct (we've put that on indefinite hold) and one work one, where I discuss the gory details of my job - I work in operating theatres and have lots to say about the state of other people's insides. Let me know if you want in on either!

OOh, yes please - the more filters I'm on the merrier :-)

I've added you to all mine, although I don't necessarily guarantee to say anything interesting on any of them :-)
